what is HUSTLE N' CODE?

TXT’s Hustle N’ Code Hackathon is an event aimed at inspiring girls and boys who live in public housing developments (i.e. “The Projects”) to address pressing issues in their communities using technology. TXT is the only organization in the nation that is hosting hackathons directly in public housing developments, and the need is high: our data has shown that less than 1% of girls and boys in public housing developments in South Central have access to the internet, and less than 5% have access to a computer at home. Thanks to Hustle N’ Code, hundreds of girls and boys from South Central Los Angeles will be exposed to computer science for the first time.

Hustle n' code

started with a

dream

Hustle N' Code 1.0

In the summer of 2015 Marcelino a resident of the Nickerson Housing Developments and members of TXT went door knocking to invite other young people to the first Hustle N’ Code Hackathon that served 100 youth.

Hustle N' Code 2.0

Scaling the model, TXT hosted Hustle N’ Code Hackathon in Los Pueblos Developments and served 200 youth from the community.

Hustle N' Code 3.0

In 2016, Hustle N’Code Hackathon broke a record and hosted the largest youth Hackathon in Los Angeles that served 300 youth participants.

and now

Hustle N' Code 4.0

Hustle N’ Code Hackathon is going city-wide this year! For the first time ever, TXT will be hosting 2 Hackathons in 2 different locations at the same time across Los Angeles. TXT is the only organization in the nation that is hosting hackathons directly in public housing developments because we understand the importance of access to technology. Thanks to Hustle N’ Code, hundreds of teens from Los Angeles will be exposed to computer science for the first time.
